The Village of Southampton lists eleven beaches along nearly seven miles of oceanfront. Cooper’s Beach is the only one with lifeguards; every other Village beach is swim at your own risk. This site covers ten of them: Cooper’s, Cryder, Fowler, Gin Lane, Halsey Neck Lane, Little Plains Road, Old Town, Road D, Road G and Wyandanch. The eleventh, Dune Beach, is for Village residents only.
The practical advice is to pick Cooper’s for a swim and any of the others for a walk. Southampton Village Ocean Rescue, a volunteer first-responder group dispatched through 9-1-1, responds to the unguarded beaches, but it is a rescue service, not a lifeguard.
The pick, by need
Cooper’s Beach
The Village’s only lifeguarded beach, with showers, concessions and rentals
Old Town Beach
A quiet unguarded stretch when Cooper’s feels crowded
Road G Beach
A road-end access for a long walk

What changes the day
On October 28, 2026 the Village’s public works department announced that Gin Lane Beach would be closed from October 28 to 30 to release water from Lake Agawam because of a high water table. The Village posts such alerts at the top of its beaches page, so check it before you drive.
Beyond the Village, Southampton Town runs Sand Bar Beach in Hampton Bays, an unprotected ocean access. The Town’s beaches farther east and west are covered on the Hampton Bays, Water Mill and Bridgehampton pages. Permit rules for the Village are on Hamptons Beach Pass.
