Halsey Neck Lane is the road end to pair with a walk or a fishing trip at Shinnecock East County Park. Suffolk County routes drivers along this lane to the park, which is a rugged, undeveloped barrier beach. At Halsey Neck itself there are no lifeguards and no facilities, so it suits people who are comfortable on their own, in calm weather.
The Village has eleven beaches along nearly seven miles of oceanfront, and only Cooper’s has lifeguards. Halsey Neck sits about eight-tenths of a mile west of Cryder Lane and about one and three-quarter miles east of Road D, which puts it on the quiet western side of the shoreline.
Southampton Village Ocean Rescue, a volunteer group dispatched through 911, answers calls on the unguarded beaches. Bring water, shade and a trash bag. Parking and permits are on Hamptons Beach Pass.
If you want a guard, Cooper’s Beach is the Village’s staffed option, and the Southampton page maps the rest.
