A wide empty beach below a high dune of grass and bayberry, soft peach dawn, calm sea, very quiet and elegant.

Gin Lane is the Southampton Village road end with a famous name. The road end sits on the stretch of oceanfront lined with houses behind the dunes, and the beach in front of them is for walking and looking. There is no lifeguard and there are no facilities.

When the water table runs high, the Village closes the beach for a few days to release water from Lake Agawam through the dune. In October 2026 that meant a three-day closure, so it is worth a glance at the Village’s alert banner before you drive. Cooper’s Beach is the Village’s staffed option for swimming.

If the road end is full, try Cryder to the west or Little Plains Road to the east. Swim only in calm conditions, with an adult within arm’s reach of each child. Southampton Village Ocean Rescue, a volunteer group, answers 911 calls on the unguarded beaches.

Bring water and a trash bag. Parking and permits are on Hamptons Beach Pass, and the Southampton page shows the rest of the Village shoreline.
