Amagansett lets you use both coasts in one day because all its public beaches are run by the same Town. The ocean beaches have guards from 9am; the bay beaches start at 10am; the bay faces north, which puts the summer sunset over the water. The plan below follows that sequence.
Permits and parking rules are on Hamptons Beach Pass, and food on Eat Hamptons’ Amagansett page. For getting to Amagansett, see Hamptons Commute.
- 9:00amAtlantic Avenue Beach when the guards come on. The concession stand and accessible mat are there.
- 12:00pmDrive to Big Albert’s Landing for a picnic at the tables with grills. Reserve the picnic area through Parks and Recreation (631-324-2417) for groups.
- 1:00pmSwim in the calm bay under guards until 5pm.
- 5:30pmWalk the nature trail or the shoreline at Little Albert’s Landing, where swimming is prohibited without a guard.
- 7:30pmSet up at Lazy Point for sunset, which falls near 8:20pm in July over the bay.
Swaps
If the wind is onshore and the surf is up, swap the ocean stop for Indian Wells and keep the guards in sight. If you have a dog, the unguarded bay stops (Little Albert’s, Lazy Point) fit the Town’s early and late hours better than the ocean beaches; see the dog guide.
Rules to remember
No alcohol within 1,000 feet of the road end during lifeguard hours at the Town’s ocean beaches; no smoking within 500 feet of protected swimming areas. Swimming is allowed only when lifeguards are on duty.
