Lazy Point is a sunset beach, not a swimming one. It is a bay beach at the end of Lazy Point Road with a launching ramp and designated vehicle-access areas, and swimming is prohibited without a lifeguard. There are no facilities at all. Arrive an hour before sunset, bring water and take your trash home.
The geometry works in its favor. At this latitude the June sun sets well to the northwest, so a beach that looks north and west over water gets a sunset on the water in the warm months. The ocean beaches get theirs behind the dunes. The sunset guide ranks the options, and the sunset times page gives the minutes for each month.
Light fades fast after sunset in September and October, so pack a headlamp for the walk back to the car. The launching ramp needs a Town parking permit or a Town launch permit, vehicles on the sand need a drive-on pass, and Hamptons Beach Pass explains both. Dogs must be under control at all times, with the 300-foot bay rule from 10am to 6pm in summer.
To combine it with a swim, spend the afternoon at Big Albert’s Landing, the nearest lifeguarded bay beach, and drive out here for the evening. The Amagansett beach-day plan puts the two in order.
