Atlantic Avenue is Amagansett’s best-equipped guarded ocean beach. Guards start at 9am, a concession stand sits behind the sand, and the restrooms are accessible with an accessible beach mat down each summer.
The road runs south out of the hamlet to 191 Atlantic Avenue, so it is an easy bike ride from town as well as a short drive. The water is the open Atlantic, which means real waves and a drop-off that can change after a storm. Keep small children inside the flags and within arm’s reach, and swim only in the marked area between 9am and 5pm. A free surf wheelchair is out when the guards are on duty.
If the afternoon swell comes up, switch to the bay. Big Albert’s Landing is the lifeguarded bay beach on the same Town system, and the calm-water guide explains the trade. Indian Wells is the next ocean beach east if you would rather have food trucks than a concession.
Dogs are restricted from 10am to 6pm between May 15 and September 15, then free under control. The Town sells weekday daily parking here, not on holidays, and Hamptons Beach Pass has the prices and permit rules. Staying for the summer? Amagansett rentals for the season are on Hamptons Key, and Eat Hamptons lists the farm stands and seafood markets that make a good beach lunch.
