Napeague Lane Beach is where Amagansett goes quiet. There is no lifeguard, no restroom and no concession, and swimming is prohibited when no lifeguard is on duty. What remains is shoreline, wind and enough room to walk a mile without meeting a crowd. Bring water, a hat and a bag for your trash, because there is little shade and nothing is sold.
This stretch has been in the news. A court order limits vehicle access at the area known as Truck Beach, and vehicles may not go beyond the eastern boundary of the road at any time. If the plan involves driving on the sand, read the Hamptons Beach Pass entry for this beach first. On foot, the beach is simple: check the tide and keep to the public sand.
Dogs must be under control at all times, with summer limits from 10am to 6pm. People come here to walk, fish and look at the bay, not to swim. If someone in the group wants the water, Big Albert’s Landing is minutes away with guards, restrooms and a picnic area. The quiet-beaches guide covers other places in the same mood, and the Amagansett page shows how they fit together.
