Maidstone Park is East Hampton’s all-purpose family beach, and one of the Town’s most popular parks. It has a lifeguard-protected bay beach, accessible restrooms, a covered picnic pavilion with grills, a playground and a second picnic area by a Little League and softball field. It is in Springs, off Flaggy Hole Road, and open from sunrise to sunset.

Bay water means gentler swimming than the ocean beaches in the Village, and the park setting gives kids who tire of the water somewhere else to go. The Town takes reservations for the pavilion and the ballfield through Parks and Recreation at 631-324-2417, which matters for a birthday party. The calm water guide has the head-to-head with the ocean beaches.

Guards work 10am to 5pm. Restrooms open mid-May to mid-October, with a second accessible restroom by the ballfield, and a free surf wheelchair is out when guards are on duty. Vehicle access to the sand needs a drive-on pass. Parking and permits are on Hamptons Beach Pass.

It is the one beach in this part of East Hampton where a whole afternoon fits without a car trip. For another guarded bay beach, Big Albert’s Landing is in Amagansett.
