A narrow strip of dune where a still coastal pond reflects the sky on one side and the Atlantic surf breaks beyond the dune on the other, tall beach grass, overcast soft pearl light.

Beach Lane Beach (Wainscott)

Wainscott's ocean access, with Georgica Pond behind the dune and almost nobody on the sand.

  • Atlantic Ocean
  • No lifeguards
Best for
Long walks east toward Georgica, surf casting and a thermos in October
Go when
Weekdays and the shoulder seasons
Mind this
No lifeguard; nobody is watching the water

Beach Lane is Wainscott’s public ocean access, and it suits people who already know what they are doing. There is no lifeguard, no restroom and no concession, swimming is prohibited when no guard is on duty, and vehicle access is limited to designated areas. Georgica Pond sits just behind the dune, which is why a shellfish permit is required to take crabs from the pond.

What you get in return is open ocean and almost nobody, especially on weekdays and in the shoulder seasons. It works for a long walk east toward Georgica Beach, for surf casting, and for a thermos on the sand in October. Anyone who wants to swim should use the Village’s guarded stretch instead, and the rip current guide is worth reading first because nobody here will be watching.

Vehicles are not allowed on the beach from 10am to 6pm between the Thursday before Memorial Day and September 15 unless authorized. Dogs must be under control all year, with summer limits from 10am to 6pm. There are no bins, so pack out what you bring. Hamptons Beach Pass has the access and permit rules, and the Wainscott page shows the town’s other road end, Town Line Beach.
