South Edison is the plain, useful Montauk beach: a guard stand, accessible restrooms and a road end with a few blocks of street where you pay by the session. The Town sells four-hour and eight-hour parking by QR code, text or phone on the posted signs, or takes a valid Town permit. Hamptons Beach Pass has the details.

There is no concession, so bring lunch or walk up to town. Guards work 9am to 5pm, and a free surf wheelchair is out when they are on duty. Swim only inside the marked area. Vehicles stay off the sand from 10am to 6pm between the Thursday before Memorial Day and September 15.

The surf behaves like Kirk Park a few minutes west, open Atlantic with small waves on most summer days and bigger ones when a swell arrives. Go by the flag, not by the forecast.

For waves or a food truck, Ditch Plains and Kirk Park are the better picks. For a day with children that avoids surf altogether, the calm-water guide names the bay options.
