Sammy’s Beach is the Town of East Hampton’s own pick for a walk. It is a bay beach at the end of Sammy’s Beach Road with vehicle access in designated areas for permit holders, and the Town calls it ideal for hiking. There are no lifeguards and no facilities, and swimming is prohibited when no guard is on duty.

That makes the plan simple: park legally, bring water, walk and leave no trace. It is a good place for the off-season, when the Town lifts its dog restrictions on September 16, and the off-season beaches guide lists the other places that open up after Labor Day. Pack a headlamp if you plan to stay for the evening.

For a swim with a lifeguard, Maidstone Park Beach is the closest guarded bay beach in the Town. The beach is open year-round, and parking needs a Town permit. Drive-on rules and permits are on Hamptons Beach Pass. More shoreline is on the East Hampton page.
