Mecox is a small guarded beach in the middle of Bridgehampton’s estate coast. The Town acquired it in 1952. It has about 250 feet of ocean shoreline, lifeguards, an outdoor shower, restrooms, a mobile concession, a beach volleyball court and 111 parking spaces. The address is 535 Jobs Lane.
The scale defines the day. It is a good place for a few hours with a book and a lunch from the concession, and a poor place for a large group. The ocean is the same Atlantic as the rest of the coast, so swim near the guard and read the flags. If the lot is full, the neighboring W. Scott Cameron Beach is the nearest Town option, and Sagg Main is a short drive east.
Dogs are barred from April 1 to October 1. Mecox Inlet access on Flying Point Road is a separate, unguarded access road with its own dog hours. There is no alcohol, glass or smoking, and the beach closes at 9pm. Permits and daily parking are on Hamptons Beach Pass.
