Cedar Point is a county park first and a beach second. It covers 607 acres on Gardiner’s Bay, with camping for individuals and groups, picnic areas, boat rentals, nature trails and surfcasting for bass and bluefish. Vehicles reach the outer beach by permit only. There are no lifeguards.

The park’s best-known sight is the lighthouse. Cedar Point Lighthouse was built in 1860 on an island 200 yards offshore to guide whaling ships in and out of Sag Harbor, and the 1938 hurricane pushed the sand into a narrow strip you can now walk. A third-party operator runs seasonal safari-style glamping tents, and the park has bathrooms, hot showers and a camp store. For the angler’s view of the same coast, see the surf fishing guide.

The approach ends on Cedar Point Road, and a low-clearance bridge on the route is flagged for vehicles over 10 feet. Waterfowl hunting is permitted in season, so check the schedule before a winter walk. Permits and parking are on Hamptons Beach Pass.

More on the area is on the East Hampton page, and Maidstone Park Beach is the lifeguarded bay swim nearby.
