Sand Bar Beach is the Town of Southampton’s unguarded ocean access on Dune Road in Hampton Bays. The Town bought it in 2002 with Community Preservation Funds and calls it an unprotected, non-lifeguarded ocean access, with 42 parking spaces. There is no pavilion, no concession and no restroom, so it is a walking and fishing beach, not a family-with-toddlers one.

The address numbers tell you where you are: Sand Bar is at 32 Dune Road, close to Hot Dog Beach at 35, which has guards, an outdoor shower and restrooms. Use Hot Dog for the swim and Sand Bar for the quiet end of the same stretch, and read the unguarded beaches guide first.

The seasonal dog ban applies: no dogs from April 1 to October 1, and under control with 50 feet of clearance from plover areas the rest of the year. There is no alcohol, glass or smoking, and the Town closes its beaches at 9pm. Parking and permits are on Hamptons Beach Pass.
