A quiet stretch of open sand backed by a high green dune, a single weathered wooden post in the sand, glassy wet beach under pale overcast sky.

Egypt Beach

Open Village sand at the end of Old Beach Lane, for walking and sitting rather than swimming.

  • Atlantic Ocean
  • No lifeguards
Best for
A weekday walk and a quiet seat on the sand
Go when
Weekday afternoons, out of the July weekend rush
Mind this
No lifeguard, no restrooms; the Village flags do not replace a guard

Egypt Beach is one of five ocean beaches run by the Village of East Hampton, and one of two without lifeguards. Only Main, Georgica and Two Mile Hollow are guarded, so Egypt is a place to walk, sit and watch rather than swim. It is at 55 Old Beach Lane.

Quiet is the draw. Without a stand and a pavilion, the beach attracts fewer people, and on a weekday afternoon it can feel like the South Fork before the summer crowd. There are no restrooms, so bring water. If you plan to swim, drive to Main Beach instead.

On the night of the fire department fireworks, the Village bars vehicles from the sand between Egypt Beach and Georgica Beach. Dogs are not allowed 9am to 6pm from May 15 to September 15, and fires follow the Village code: nothing before 6pm, fully out before midnight, in a metal container.

Parking and permits are on Hamptons Beach Pass. See East Hampton’s other beaches for the guarded options.
